Are you concerned about staff turnover in the industry?
Statistics show that employers are now 6 times more likely to receive a claim in an Employment Tribunal from one of their employees than in 1998. Each case is estimated to cost an employer in terms of lost business or costs at least £1000 and that is before any award for compensation is made in favour of the employee. The limit rose to £56,800 on 1st February 2005.
Even though employment tribunal claims are comparatively rare the DTI has estimated that 44% of employees who experience problems within their employment relationship will either resign or be dismissed. This is not to say that all of these employees were not good at their job. It may simply mean that time and money spent in training people may be saved by improving workplace relations.
